Laimis E30 325i 24v Turbo
Hello everyone, my name is Laimis. I am writing from Lithuania, hope you will accept your neighbor
Excuse me for writing in english because i know only a few words in polish like ja perdole and kurva matka. I know these from polish Youtube videos LOL.
Let me introduce my BMW which i have built 2-3 years ago. It has competed in many drag races, won a few trophies and never let down.
Best results so far - 10.64s / 238kmh. But don't be confused its a 100% pure street car
Recently i have bought a Dynapack hub dyno and measured the power at the lowest turbo pressure (boost controll off).
It made 389WHP @ 0.87bar (DIN) at the wheels. I'm to busy now so can't afford working on my own car now.
Since i have swapped old 960cc injectors to 2400cc, engine mapping has to be verified and/or remapped.
I hope soon i will have more time so i will be able tune my E30 Turbo back to 2.4-2.5bar race boost. I will let you know the results !

Nice job with car ! Nice to meet You Laimis, im impressed that You write anti-bot answer in registration form, to now i was think its impossible to someone who don't speek polish
HX52 16cm is huge pail, and I think if You dont need 900HP its too big and better for this project will be some smaller like HX40 (550HP) or for drag racing HX50 14cm (700-800HP). Potential of this HX52 You will never use in 2,5l M50 engine...
Why You use VAG coils in place serial BMW?

Re: Laimis E30 325i 24v Turbo
Great build up! Very nice and clean, I like it.
I like the fight with steering wheel during the race in Your video
As Korona asked, why did You choose such big turbo? And second one - why did You stay with stock 2.5 liter capacity?

Wow, i see now that You use Dynapack. Its Yours? How much it cost and where it can be buy? In Poland i never seen any of this, only standard dyno, or road dyno

Haha, just messing .. It was easy with Google Translate
A HX52 choice has few reasons. I got this turbo brand new for a very good price i think it was around 1100 PLN. I run almost stock engine, so its better not to max out the turbo to keep the engine in one piece. HX40 is to small. HX50 14cm i'm not sure, it depends on backpressure, and i think it will be high at 2.5bar. You will not notice big difference in spool comparing 14 and 16cm housings, it also depends from turbine wheel size though ..
On the street i see full boost at 4500rpm 3rd gear and 4100rpm 4th gear, of course if there is no wheel spin. The engine revs up to 8000rpm, so its plenty of powerband.
These active VAG coils produce much stronger spark plus ignitors are built inside the coil, this means less noise in the engine wiring.
A fellow Swedish tuner was able to manage 1115WHP 1200WNm with these coils on M50 engine and E85 fuel. And they are dirty cheap brand new.
Cool ! This was easy fight, you need to see this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqtrfKvJQ3k" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; forward to 2:01.Pat-325 pisze:Great build up! Very nice and clean, I like it.

As Korona asked, why did You choose such big turbo? And second one - why did You stay with stock 2.5 liter capacity?
Conclusion: never race with slicks during the rain
I have explained turbo story under Korona's quote.
2.5 liter is because i found a really healthy M50, by healthy i mean true mileage of 180 000 - 190 000km.
The bottom end is not touched yet, same 200 000 km parts rotating today.
Yeah the dyno is mine. It cost quote a lot ... I bought it directly from the factory in New Zealand http://www.dynapack.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; it was like $10 000 USD cheaper than USA dealer quoted. I have not asked UK dealer though, but its already known they like british pounds instead of dollarskorona pisze:Wow, i see now that You use Dynapack. Its Yours? How much it cost and where it can be buy? In Poland i never seen any of this, only standard dyno, or road dyno
But it's worth every single dollar. Dynapack is an amazing machine, very sensitive and rpeatable, i have seen repeatability up to 0.3Nm/HP run after run.
And its the only way to tune very powerful engines, because wheel slip is not possible. My dyno is capable to measure up to 1390WHP at the wheels (~1500BHP at the engine).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uc2pQTO0V0M" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
You can get the idea, this is how cruise and light loads are tuned.
After the dyno tune there is no need to re-tune anything on the street. Because you will see same AFR, same spool and same boost.

1. org . pistons and 10:1?
2. how big boost?
3.arp head screws ?
4.custom head gasket or orginal?
CR unbelievable that it all works.
I'm impressed, nice car, nice job.
p.s. my e36 generated 1,2bar 550HP and 700nM (e85)

Wszystko masz napisane, czytaj uważnie:
M50B25 no Vanos, 10:1
Con rods, pistons, head gasket - stock
Utenos Termodinamika head studs (made in Lithuania)
It made 389WHP @ 0.87bar (DIN)

Upload more photos My questions:
I saw that you have got a carbonfibre front hood. What is the difference in weight? I mean stock vs carbon.
How did you install this quite big intercooler in the front of E30? (photos please).
Give me a part numer of these VAG coils. How big spark gap have u set up in your spark plugs?
Great car by the way, very refined!

Re: Laimis E30 325i 24v Turbo
Hello Laimis.
I am really impressed with your engine setup. Have you honestly had stock bottom end with CR=10:1 and boosted it 2.5bar? What was the spark ignition timing at WOT then? I am asking you out of curiosity, because many of 1JZ or 2JZ engines I have tuned at higher boost like 1.3-1.5bar needed to be around 8-10deg of spark advance at WOT to protect them from engine knocking. In Poland we run at PB98 though.
I like your workshop. Regards,
Michal.
